Journey To The West (Part 1)
Hello Mr Diary, its me again! 2 days ago, i went kite flying at West Coast Park for the first time in my life! What makes it all the more special was the fact that SHE flew it with me! ( Her first time too!) In fact, i was already looking forward to that very day a week ago!
Over the days leading to the actual day, i kept thinking to myself why has it taken me 18yrs to fly a kite! Im sure others would have flown their first on their first few yrs on earth! Anyway, I was so afraid that i may not be able to make it fly since i've never done that before! Because of that, i did 'research' late into the night after work to 'study' how to fly a kite! I hope she would not be too disappointed if im not able to make the kite soar into the sky...
The night before, i was talking to my cousin when she told me that West Coast Park DO NOT SELL KITES! I was shocked! I had earlier intended to buy a kite there! I look at the clock on my HP and it shows 8.35pm! In a rush, i took an MRT down to Marina Bay. I then took a bus to the 'Steamboat place'! To my horror, the whole place was shut down for renovation! Even the shop that used to sell kites was gone! The whole place was like a ghost town! No choice, i retured home with a heavy heart... The time was 9.30pm when i left Marina Bay. At that time, i started thinking to myself what a muddle-head i've been! Fancy asking her to fly a kite when i hafnt even got one! Next, i took a train to Toa Payoh and scoured the whole area for kites! Guess wad, you're right! None of them sell kites.. My heart was super heavy i had to dragged it home!
The next morning, she was supposed to meet me at 11am. Setting my alarm clock, i was supposed to wake at 8am. I had decided to venture into the East to get a kite! Yes East Coast Park! For some reason, i woke up at 6.30am... I waited for my family to leave (about and hr?) before putting on a pullover and off i went! The ride took me abt 45mins and by the time i was there, it was 8.35am. I had so much confidence that i would get my KITE there... Upon reaching my destination, many of the shops were not opened yet. Only a skating shop and 7-11 'woke up'. First up, i made my way to the skating shop and asked the guy any shops sell kites. Again, everyone seems to be in the mood to put me down, and he said no shops in East Coast Park sells kites! I was devastated! I looked at him in disbelief before moving on to the next alternative - 7-11. How can a park known for its ideal location to fly kites not sell kites?! As you would have probably guessed it, i had no luck at 7-11. They told me the same thing... By then, the time was 9.05am. I was starting to think if heaven really wants to stop me from flying a kite with the girl i've so often dreamt about.
Sadly, i trudged home on a journey that cost me $1.39 (x2!). Back at my bus stop, i walked about aimlessly when i stumbled upon a provision shop. The uncle smiled at me and asked if i was looking for anything. Kite was my answer and i did not expect any reply... I was about to set foot back home when he said its over there! My eyes lit up in an instant and the strings that were tugging at my heart all this while were gone! I ran into his shop and i saw kites that were quite 'cheapskate' but who cares!! They had teletubbies and power rangers designs on them! At that time, anything would do! I was smiling again. Walking home, i was thinking to myself. I had wondered to the East (east coast park), to the Bay (marina bay) and even central (toapayoh) areas of singapore yet no shops sold kites! Yet back in my own backyard, someone out there sells kites! Its like walking around the whole house finding your specs when its on your head all the time! I began laughing ( yes, really laughing!) at my own foolishness and most importantly, started to feel so so so much better then before...
